Every year, nearly 10 lakh aspirants appear for the prestigious Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Coal India Limited (CIL) launches NIRMAN (Noble Initiative for Rewarding Mains Aspirants of National Civil Services Examination) to support and encourage candidates from its mining states who qualify the Preliminary stage of the UPSC Civil Services and Forest Services Examination 2026.
Under this scheme, each qualifying candidate is provided with a financial assistance of ₹1 lakh to help them prepare for the next stages of the examination. The objective of NIRMAN is to motivate the future Karmayogis who will contribute significantly to the nation’s growth journey under the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
In NIRMAN 2024, a total of 80 applications were received, out of which 66 eligible candidates were extended support after due scrutiny. Among these, 13 candidates qualified for the Personality Test, and 6 were ultimately selected in the final list recommended by the UPSC. Notably, all six successful candidates are women, marking a proud milestone for the initiative.
In NIRMAN 2025, a total of 40 applications were received, out of which 33 eligible candidates were extended support after due scrutiny. Among these, 5 candidates qualified for the Personality Test, and 1 was ultimately selected in the final list recommended by the UPSC.
This outcome reflects the transformative impact of CIL’s targeted interventions and its commitment to nurturing talent from underserved regions.
